TelPatch
Overview
TelPatch will suppress the annoying formatting of the phone numbers in the names
application on newer Newton models like the MP 2100.
Installation
Please make a backup first. It's always a good idea to backup your device before you
install a new program. Even if we have tested all of our programs very intense, because of
the variety of existing programs and system configurations no one can guarantee that no
problem will occur.
Tranfer the TelPatch.pkg file to your Newton OS device by using an appropriate package
installation program, like NBU, NCU or the Newton Package Installer.
Operation
TelPatch will not have any user interface. It simply patches the Newton OS.
Differently from the MP120/130 the MessagePad 2100 will format the phone numbers you
enter in "Names". The phone number 123456 with area code 0371 will be shown as
03 71 12 34 56. If this would affect displaying only, you could say it's an optical
problem only, but the number will be stored in that format. Try to a "Find" for
123456 if the phone number is stored as 12 34 56! And to make the chaos perfect, if you
bring your data from a MP120/130 on a MP2100 the numbers has not been formatted newly, so
there are two different formattings.
Because of that and since many users has their own formatting scheme anyway, it would
be desirable to turn off this high-handed formatting. That's what "TelPatch" is
for. All phone numbers entered or edited in "Names" after installing this
program will been stored as they are.
Troubleshooting
If you wish to have the original formatting, simply remove TelPatch - no reset is
needed.
TelPatch will not affect any phone numbers entered before installing TelPatch. This
means that a formatted number will stay formatted until you correct it byself. The same
thing is for removing TelPatch. The numbers you've entered while TelPatch was installed
wouldn't be reformatted automatically, you have to do this manually.
