Replied by Doctor Clu on topic NewTendo, the Nintendo Emulator for the Newton!

Howdy Fellow Newtonians,
I recently installed the Newtendo NES emulator on my MP2000 for the first time. It was a long and arduous journey, but I got it installed and even got the first two games I tried to fire right up. Granted, they are slow as molasses, but it was then that I realized the best games to play in this stylus-driven environment wouldn't be arcade/action/platform titles, which the NES is really known for. But rather adventure games like Maniac Mansion, which is a point and click mystery/adventure/puzzle game. It seemed so much more destined for a Newton stylus than a mouse, you know what I mean?
I proceeded to browse the NES catalog and picked half a dozen games that sounded like very worthy contenders.
I converted them (being forced to download and package them on an internet-connected G3 Pismo running macos 9.2 to avoid corrupting the PKG files, which my modern machines and browsers all do).
So I got my downloading machine and environment all set up and working great (a process!). However, other than the 1st two games I tried, none of the other games worked.
After going down a very deep rabbit hole, I came to learn about NES game mapper chips with IDs 0, 1, 2, and 4 being the only ROMs that could ever work with the converter tool.
All the games I downloaded should have been fine - except for one, I later learned. However none of the games worked regardless of what these ancient text-only sites I found claimed.
Does anyone here have a definitive list of games they themselves have successfully packaged and moved over? And beyond that, which ones would you recommend?
I can guarantee Pacman and Tetris work. Beyond that I've totally struck out.
These are the games I was hoping to play but simply don't convert correctly for some reason.
Baseball Stars (should work, but doesn’t)
Shadowgate (should work, but doesn’t)
Uninvited (NOPE, wrong mapper)
Goonies II (should work, but doesn’t)
Lemmings (should work, but doesn’t)
Maniac Mansion (should work, but doesn’t)
Lastly, I used the latest packager by Victor Rehorst at chuma.org, last updated in 2017. I even contacted and he kindly wrote me back, but I didn't glean any new information there.
Any assistance from the fine fans here would be much appreciated!
Peace

Replied by Doctor Clu on topic Game: Motile - the maze runner challenge
It was around that time that I was going through my Newton stuff as I've been using the Newton since probably the Newton 120 was new, and found three data/map files: InOrder, OneWay, and Dissolve.
All these files can be found on this page if you search for "Tactile"
www.unna.org/incoming/
And hopefully at some point all these "new" files will be added to the proper areas on the UNNA.
The missing maps at this point are Standard & Transports, Appearing Walls, Moving Goals, and Diabolical Mixture.
WHY AM I LOOKING FOR MOTILE?
Well, aside from sorting out Newton things, I always thought Motile was cute and well developed game for the Newton. And there is NO information I could find the internet about it. So it is time to find it before it vanishes!
Appreciate whatever people can share about it on memories of the games, files, references, stories of development, etc!

Game: Motile - the maze runner challenge was created by Doctor Clu
This thread is about collecting information about the game Motile.
So around December 17th I asked for the support files for Motile. Got responses from Grant of UNNA.org, "Data Pack Rat" Dan who contributed his dump of the Motile website at Tactile which is essentially what you can find at UNNA.org here:
www.unna.org/view.php?/games/Motile
It was around that time that Marisa asked for a copy to be shared on NewtonCity.org, and that is what got me started on deciding maybe we should mirror and discuss things here! My new project for 2025... making NewtonCity A LIVING WIKI!
